Bible and Quote April 20 - 24

Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the statutes of his father David, except... 1 Kings 3:3
To what advantage is there to deviate from the plumb line of what is good? Will not what you devise collapse?

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, ‘Ask! What shall I give you?’ 1 Kings 3:5
O God, forgive the poverty and the pettiness of our prayers. Listen not to our words but to the yearnings of our hearts. Hear beneath our petitions the crying of our need. Peter Marshall

.Solomon (to God) ‘You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.’ 1 Kings 3:6
If you want someone to see what Christ will do for him, let him see what Christ has done for you. Henry Ward Beecher, 1813-87

(Solomon continues) O Lord, my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 1 Kings 3:7
Only with God can we be completely honest and be brought into an awareness of our inner most thoughts, emotions and actual needs.

(Solomon’s request) give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. 1 Kings 3:9
To those seeking His wisdom, God reveals evil’s presence lurking in seeming good and good’s presence blanketed in seeming bad.
